My interest in painting is derived from having encountered the quietness and grace of 18th-century Japanese landscape painting.
I endeavor to paint with a muted form of expression. Huts on stilts, raised walkways, A-frames, ladders and billboards litter the fictitious landscapes. They are traces of human existence (human idiosyncrasy), but also act as technical devices, making the landscape somehow more tangible.

Tom Bull was born in Shoreham, West Sussex in 1983. He studied at Brighton and Hove City College 2001-02 and Middlesex University 2002-05. Since Graduating he has shown in London in group shows including Middlesex University Degree Show Old Truman Brewery 2005, You don’t have to murder your father The Empire 2005, Best of the Best and Art and Mind La Viande 2005, Jam Jones Project Space 2006 and Square Eyes John Jones Project Space 2007.
